Comments: This is an experiment with using bark — the kind used by gardeners — as rocks. I believe it's pine bark. It works reasonably well I think; the main issue still to be resolved is the glaring outline of the base, which could probably be fixed with a bit of disruptive paintwork.
The figure is an old 28mm Citadel barbarian, used here as a scale reference.
