Comments: One of the primary cruiser tanks of the United Kingdom during World War II, the Tank, Cruiser, Mk VI Crusader (A15) was perhaps the most important British tank of the North African Campaign. Over 5,300 were built. Fast, reasonably well armoured (for its day) and elegant, the Crusader is one of my favourite British tanks of the war. This version (the Mark 1) was armed with the 40mm 2 pounder; a good enough tank gun at the beginning of the war but quickly made obsolescent by advances in German armour. No HE was provided for it at all, which made engaging soft targets or anti-tank guns largely an exercise in futility.
These models have been painted in the overall Middle Bronze Green used for Home Service in the UK.
The small sub-turret on the hull front mounted a BESA machine-gun, but it was extremely cramped and the gun very awkward to use, and often the turret was removed in the field, left empty, or used for additional storage.
