Fitz's 6mm Cold War Stuff

Land Rovers

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
Here are some light transports for my BAOR force — a bunch of Land Rovers. ½-tonne on the left, ¾-tonne on the right. How much I'll actually use them on the battlefield I don't know, but I guess they'll come in handy for whizzing observer teams and the like about. I'd think Land Rovers might be a bit vulnerable to be operating up the sharp end, but then my teensy-tiny lead men are VERY VERY BRAVE.

FV432

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
The two vehicles right at the back mount the Swingfire ATGM system, while all the others are pure APCs.

Gazelle

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
The Gazelle is a small, light helicopter. It usually flew unarmed, and was primarily used for reconnaissance and as FAO for the artillery.

Lynx

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
The Lynx is multi-purpose helicopter, used for troop transport as well as for ground attack. This model has side-mounted rocket pods.

Jaguar

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
The Jaguar's primary function was for ground attack.

Tornado

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
Designed as a ground-attack aircraft, the Tornado was later (poorly) shoehorned into an interceptor role as well.

FV432 Mortar Carrier

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
This version of the FV432 carries an 81mm mortar, which can be fired from the vehicle, or be dismounted and emplaced. Useful for quick response light artillery support.

Hawker Harrier

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
This was the archetypal British aeroplane of the 1970s and '80s for me. Its VTOL capabilities and futuristic line made it seem very "Captain Scarlet–ish" to me when I was growing up. Apparently they were not without their shortcomings, but I knew nothing of those and just thought they were cool.

GPMG Teams

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
These three-man GPMG teams have their guns mounted on tripods in the sustained-fire mode.

Striker

Heroics & Ros, 1/300
This is one of the ATGM versions of the CVRT. The Striker mounts five Swingfire missiles in the launcher at the top-rear of the hull. These models are moulded with the launchers in their firing position, which is fortunate since when they're lowered, it's a bit difficult to distinguish the Striker from the Spartan APC.

105mm Light Gun

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
The crew are the old-style "toy soldier" sculpts, but they actually don't look too bad once the DPM is painted on. They've been sculpted in berets, which I think would be fairly unlikely headwear in the field — they should be navy blue, which would look black in this scale, and I may go back and repaint them one of these days.

155mm gun and Foden lorry

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
The Foden's load comes as a separate piece and has to be glued to the cargo-bed, and I'm not sure whether I've put them the right way around. If not, I suppose I will just have to live with that shame.

The gun crew are H&R's old-style sculpts, and I've painted them in plain green mainly to see whether the extra work involved in painting DPM camo is justified — I think it is, even though my own eyesight is getting shitty enough that I can't really see it on the table.

Abbot 105mm SPG

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
This model comes with the gun horizontal, and I've bent it into a firing position. In real life it would appear at a much more acute angle, as the gun pivots back inside the turret.

Heroics & Ros Milan teams: old and new

The new sculpts are above, the old ones below. The new ones are much more highly detailed, but the old ones are perfectly good gaming tokens.

BAOR Infantry sprues

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
These are the new sculpts for H&R's 1980s British infantry. They're much more detailed than the old, which has its pros and cons: they look more natural, and their uniforms and equipment actually look like the originals, but on the other hand they take a bit more work in painting, and the combination of DPM camouflage and all that detail actually makes them "disappear" on their bases.

Note that the only GPMG gunners included are those advancing figures on the command sprues. The prone gunners appear to be using the 7.62 Bren.

Chieftain Mk.IX

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
These Mark 9s will stand in for Chieftains of any mark, as they're all visually very similar in this scale.

BAOR Infantry

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
The figures are mounted on washers, the base size being an indicator of the team size. 22mm washers are for 3-man teams, 16mm for two, and 12.5mm for one man bases.

One Tonne Landrover

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
This is the tow vehicle for the 105mm Light Gun.

Samaritan and Sultan

Heroics & Ros, 1/300.
When I ordered my BAOR stuff from Heroics & Ros, I inadvertantly did a double-order for all my APCs and command vehicles. A useful side-effect of this error was that I could paint one of the Sultan command vehicles as a Samaritan battlefield ambulance.
