These were huge figures for their time. Though marketed as 25mm, they're more like 28mm or even 30mm figures. That provided plenty of room to paint heraldry.
Essex figures were (and presumably still are) a bit cartoonish in their sculpting, and in truth I prefer their 15mm figures now.
