Possum Skull

Possum Skull

Watercolor, pastel, coloured pencil

I'm not really very happy with this one. It's a bit of a doodle I did in my sketchbook in March '07.

The skull is one that I found out at my friend Lou's land; there were no other bones nearby, so presumably the rest of it had been taken off by some other scavenger. When I found it, it was bleached quite white, but I oiled it (with linseed oil) and it went a nasty mottled yellowy-olive colour, all except the teeth. I'm not very fond of possums, ever since one ran up and slid down over my tent roof and tore it to shreds with its sharp pointy little claws. I do like bones though, especially skulls.
